Biography

Our firm’s principal attorney is Krzysztof Sobczak, who commonly goes by Kris, a zealous trial attorney who does not give up.

I am a disciplined and driven trial lawyer and very passionate about our legal system. When someone has been injured or wronged, it is my job to try that case to a jury of peers in order to get closure and justice, to obtain a favorable judgment for our clients, to deter wrongful conduct and to ensure and encourage socially responsible behavior, and to help to establish safe community standards. I have tried several cases to verdict, obtaining some of the largest recent judgments in Massachusetts history, including a $14.2 million judgment in a wrongful death nursing home neglect case (2014) and a $6.6 million judgment in a premises liability negligent security case (2015). However, most of the cases resolve pre-trial via settlements and you can see just some of those on the Verdicts and Settlements page. In 2019 I won two pivotal cases at the Massachusetts Appeals Court regarding patients/customers access to justice and rights to their own medical records, and the unfair and deceptive practices by the various providers trying to block such access.

When litigating cases, prior to going to trial, I vigorously and diligently purse discovery in and out of court, to get to the whole truth. I take an aggressive approach to litigation and discovery, not being afraid of confrontation, whether it be against the opposing counsel, the court system, or others standing in the way of the truth. The goal is for the truth to always come out; as Justice Brandeis once said: “…sunlight is said to be the best of disinfectants.”

Although everyone has a right to seek justice in our court systems, litigation is not always the best or most cost effective solution, and I take the time to explain to our clients and potential clients, the roads available to them. If a matter does end up in litigation, I enjoy explaining and teaching the important and relevant issues of the case as continuous education is one of my passions.

Never accepting the status quo, I always want to learn new things or techniques and have done so throughout my life. I received my Bachelor of Science degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Master of Science degree from Boston University. I started law school in Chicago while still on active duty with the U.S. Marine Corps and finished at Boston College Law School, graduating cum laude.

I am licensed to practice in state and federal courts in Massachusetts, as well as the state courts of Illinois. I am an active member of the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Attorneys, the American Association of Justice, and The Federalist Society.

Prior to becoming a lawyer, I served over ten years in the U.S. Marine Corps. Having served as an enlisted member and an officer, I have held several interesting positions from project management at the Pentagon to communications and operations for a counter-terrorism unit (CBIRF). I am honored to have been able to serve our country, joining the Marines only a few years after I became a U.S. citizen.

Biography

Our principal Nurse Consultant is Lisa Sobczak, who in addition to being a great and compassionate nurse is Kris’s wife and mother of their lovely daughters Sofia and Lilyanna.

I was born and raised in Boston, MA and this is where I started my nursing career at Massachusetts General Hospital.  I have over 20 years experience as a registered nurse in a variety of clinical areas including neurology/neurosurgery, oncology (where I administered chemotherapy and provided care to patients going through cancer treatment), medical/surgical units, and endoscopy (where I provided care for patients and assisted physicians in endoscopic procedures including administering conscious sedation, as well as recovering these patients in the recovery room).  In all of these units, as a nurse, I am always providing support and teaching for the patients and their families to help them through the process. I bring this experience and compassion to Sobczak Law to help the attorneys acquire a complete understanding of the medical aspects of cases.

Every client is different so I individualize my care and support to what the clients’ needs are and support the clients and their families through the legal process, providing them with information, compassion, and understanding.

A Nurse Consultant adds to our team by:

  • Gathering and summarizing medical records.
  • Preparing full chronology of client’s medical and injury history.
  • Reviewing client medical records and performing comprehensive chart reviews to determine relevancy and identify proof of injury through physician diagnosis.
  • Organizing and maintaining case files.
  • Locating and coordinating with medical experts.
  • Helping with medical research.
  • Helping with trial preparation.
